Dawn Richard On Chris Brown And Rihanna Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 March 2009 16:07
Dawn Richard has been living her life in the public eye since she made her reality-TV debut on "Making the Band" as one of the five ladies of Danity Kane. After the group's very public split over the last few months, Richard knows what it's like to be in the media spotlight.

While she said she hasn't spoken to either Chris Brown or Rihanna since their alleged altercation before the Grammy Awards — "I've seen them a couple times before all this stuff, but I don't know them like that," she said — she is "praying for both of them.

"I think they're both great artists," she said. "It's a shame and I think it's their business and it sucks that it has to be out there. [The media attention is] like a microscope — everybody's in your stuff. It's their business and whatever they choose to do with it, I wish them luck. It's not my business."

Ne-Yo, who said he's spoken with Rihanna, and Bow Wow recently spoke with MTV News about the situation.

Even with all of Richard's experience of being scrutinized by the public, she says she can't offer Brown and Rihanna much advice.

"I can't give them anything 'cause I went through my thing and it went all wrong," she said. "You just pray. I do wish them luck. I wish that everybody would back off and let them deal with it the way they deal with it. I can't give advice. I can say positivity is the best thing you can do right now. Just stay positive and just surround yourself with people who are positive."

Aubrey O'Day Reportedly Close To Signing Solo Deal Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 March 2009 16:36

According to online reports, Aubrey O'Day is close to putting Danity Kane behind her and is about to sign a solo deal with Steve Rifkind at SRC/Universal.

The KBSRadio.ca report adds that O'Day might be working with Akon on the album when the deal is signed. When reached for comment, a rep for O'Day told MTV News, "We have no comment as of now."

The news comes just weeks after MTV News caught up with O'Day during New York Fashion Week, where she didn't seem to have any details to share about her post-Danity Kane career. She did say that once she "finished off all my obligations with Danity Kane and Puff and 'Making the Band,' and once that is taken care of, I will be moving forward with a new label and releasing music."

Regardless of her situation with Diddy, she was working on new music at the time. "I'm in the studio being creative. It's been a long time since I've been able to express myself in writing and trying different ways of performing on tracks and different styles of music," she said. "And a lot of the music I've been recording has a rock edge to it, and I love it."

While the report has her teaming up with Akon, she has another big name she'd like to get in the studio with, if given the chance. "I've always said this, even when I was with Danity Kane: I would love to get Snoop on a track," she said. "I'm so in love with Snoop, and we are both West Coast people."

While fellow ousted Danity Kane member D. Woods has had some solo music hit the Web, new music from O'Day hasn't seen the light of day. "I don't need to leak music. When it's ready to be out there and be heard, [it will be]," she said. "I'm not putting pressure on myself. There was a lot of pressure to release music in the last situation, and I don't want to [release music] because there is pressure [or] because I need to make a move right now. I want to do it when I feel like it's at its best."

Sin City meets Sex and the City Print E-mail
Friday, 13 February 2009 18:58

Described as “Sin City meets Sex and the City”, what started off as drawings by Dawn Richard, not only gave Danity Kane their name, but has now became the groundwork to their own comic adventure series.

“We were in the studio and I actually draw comics, and Diddy had been throwing some names at us,” tells Dawn in the deriving of the group’s name. “He looked at the superhero that I drew and he asked me what the name of the character is...I said ‘Danity Kane.’ A comic book was always in the future plan; this could not have been at a better time as our group is celebrating many successes this year.”

Created and developed by Dawn herself, the anime comic book series will tell how they were chosen to save the universe:

A Special Collector’s preview of the first edition will be available soon.
